In 2015, during a water management workshop in Curaçao, I had the privilege of meeting Valerie Jenkinson—a Canadian powerhouse and founder of the 100 Women Who Care chapter in St. Lucia. Valerie had already begun planting seeds of this grassroots movement across the Caribbean. When she asked me if I would consider starting a Curaçao chapter, I immediately saw the potential.
That spark became a flame.
Later that year, I began working with a group of committed women in Curaçao, and in November 2016, 100 Women Who Care Curaçao was officially born. Since then, we’ve gathered every quarter—with the exception of the pandemic years—to pool our resources and fund local nonprofit initiatives that make a real difference in our community.
How It Works
The concept is simple but powerful:
- We meet four times a year, for just one hour.
- Each attendee donates 100 XCg.
- Three local charities pitch their projects.
- One is selected by majority vote to receive the full donation pot.
- 💯% of funds go directly to the organization.
We’ve never reached the full 100 attendees in one meeting. But we’ve created impact far beyond numbers—proving that small, consistent action leads to transformative change.
🌱 What We’ve Achieved So Far
Over the past 9 years, 100 Women Who Care Curaçao has:
- Donated approximately NAF 76,000
- Funded 24 community projects, from 22 local organizations, most of which are still thriving
- Made a difference in healthcare, education, food security, inclusion, and the environment

- Fundashon Alton Paas (gym for people with disabilities)
- Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao
- Clini Clowns
- Voedselbank Curaçao
- Daily Meal
- Totolika
- Spread the Love Curaçao (Good Deeds Day)
- City Nature Walk Challenge Curaçao …and many others.
